Monthly Finance Update #12 - Thriving Willow

We’ve slept 15 nights in the Tiny House so far and we love it!

Income after tax: 14.158 dkk 1897 €

Invested Amount: 8000 dkk 1072 €

Savings rate: 56,5 %

Total invested in Indexes: 57.927 dkk 7763 €

Portfolio change since last month: +15,58%

Surprising increase

What has happened this month?

Investments

Up’s and down’s. Jeez. A very unique time for the financial markets. Historically quick drops followed by historically quick rebounds.

This months change in the portfolio is a whopping +15,58%. As you know I have a few individual stocks left that I plan to get rid of soon and go 100% into indexes so the change in the portfolio is a bit off. Plan to make this more clear next month.

But as a comparison one of the global index funds Sparindex INDEX DJSI World KL I invest in dropped 33% from its’ all-time high with a 25,5% increase to follow.

Such quick fluctuations have never been seen before and I have a little feeling we haven’t seen the last of it.

What’s my plan in the midst of this?

I plan to invest consistently throughout the next year with an increased amount per month to take advantage of the sometimes (!) historically low markets.

Therefore this month the amount to be invested is 8000 dkk 1072€, compared to the normal 2500 dkk 335€, which for the first time since we started the tiny house build now comes from an income and not a savings account.

Job

Like many countries there is a lockdown situation currently until 10th of May here in Denmark with some areas of society opening up slowly at this present time.

Being an hourly paid employee teaching kitesurfing this means no work for me unfortunately and no prospect after the 10th either for the school to open.

1000 students from all around Denmark collected in one place living close? My guess is: Not going to happen any time soon.

Really unfortunate for the students looking forward to a year filled with unique experiences away from their parents.

Income this month therefor comes from the state unemployment benefits which is 14.158 dkk 1897€ after tax.

Tiny House Update

Testing the Tiny House is both tough and wonderful. Living in a house you’ve built yourself? An incredible feeling!

Why tough? You suddenly realise what important things that need finishing. Do we have running water? Not yet, but very soon. Electrics? 230V in the plugs but the 24v lights, nope.

At the moment I’m still building away after 5,5 months since starting this project getting these things finished up while my wife works in the weekdays.

I was actually looking forward to starting work again 3 weeks ago to shift focus and my mind off the build for a few days per week, so the motivation and excitement of carrying on building every day with no change was a bit of a negative blow. Yes, it’s perfect for now having the time to get this build finished but after 5,5months with no previous building experience – A break is seriously starting to be missed.

Oh well, press on and be thankful, right?
